[Plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast] Yikes! Social plugin footprints showing up in Google SERP

It has nothing to do with WordPress SEO. You need to write meta descriptions with the keyword for those pages so you have control over what shows up.

The search query in Google.com is “sand ceremony” and the URL is https://www.unitysandceremony.net/unity-sand-ceremony/

I HAVE written a specific meta desciption but Google is choosing not to use it. Like I mentioned before I did not have this problem when I was using Headspace2. I have spent a significant amount of time migrating to WordPress SEO and configuring it and am determined to resolve this problem.

I would also like to go back to using the Sharebar. Unfortunately when I use it, I have “Tweet This Email This” appear in the MIDDLE of the first sentence of the Google SERP. This significantly affected the clickthrough rate until I deactivated it and temporarily switched to the FB Share button, which now adds “Share” to the beginning of the description that Google is choosing to present.

Unfortunately, it is absolutely not related to whichever SEO plugin you use, but to what Google decides to show for that specific query. Try getting the phrase “Sand Ceremony” into the beginning of the meta description and make the meta description somewhat longer, that might help.

I have taken your advice and have lengthened the meta description a bit. The Google SERP no longer has any extra words in the description. I have now re-activated the Sharebar plugin and am monitoring the results over the next 48 hours to see if everything is okay.

I just wanted to update you that I am no longer having Google insert weird words in my meta description due to the presence of the Sharebar. As you suggested, extending the length of the description really helped. The whole exercise made me rethink my whole approach to writing meta descriptions by focusing on what the site has to offer rather than the value of the specific page showing up in the SERP.

@webexplosion, did you make your metas longer than the recommended character count?

@kingsofazon, as Joost suggested, I extended the length of my meta description. I also switch from the Sharebar to Get Social. The problem was resolved after that.
