Red X instead of images

  • Hi,
    I am trying to figure out how to use this site by trial-and-error basically.

    There are red-X that come up when I upload my images.

    If you could give me the more simple possible cause and solution first, that would be most helpful because I think it would be easier to try that first and then proceed with less likely really complicated possible causes and solutions.

    Please only respond if you are earnestly trying to be helpful, not rude and intentionally confusing like I have noticed some people doing in other forums. I know that you are doing this for FREE and I APPRECIATE IT.

    Please keep in mind that I am not a programmer, so if you say “go check the FTP”, I don’t know what that means. So baby explanation would really be the only thing possible. I’m SORRY for having to ask.

    p.s. in case you were about to tell me, obviously I already searched the other forums and was not able to figure this out.

    The red x indicates that an image url is in use but the file is not at this url – read the source code of the page to review this…This is typical of a moved installation to a new domain or sub-domain as the links are embedded in the post or page within the DB.

    The red-x means the path to the image is wrong. Hover the mouse over the x and it will show what it is looking for and where. Then you go to the dashboard and correct the link.

    Someone off-line helped me solve the problem, so I thought I would share it on here.

    My file name had spaces in it, and because this is a linux system, that messes up the path, because linux doesn’t recognize the spaces as just another character (it is also case-sensitive).

    So, I TOOK OUT ALL THE SPACES IN THE FILE NAME AND IT WORKS FINE!
