• I have quite a few wordpress sites, but still only an amateur – here’s the problem I have at the moment: When I try to upload images to the Media Library, it says it has uploaded it, but no image appears in the library. Here is the message I get:

Maximum upload file size: 64MB. After a file has been uploaded, you can add titles and descriptions.
    Crunching…
Dismiss“_K7Q0274.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
Unable to create directory /home/speakers/public_html/wp-content/uploads. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    Can anyone help please:

    Cheers

You first need to change the writing permissions for wp-content/uploads if you have this directory. If not, create it with the correct perms.

Also, have a look at the Settings -> Media and make sure everything is right in there.

Where do I have to go to ‘…change the writing permissions for wp-content/uploads if you have this directory.’ and I don’t know what this means at all: ‘If not, create it with the correct perms.’

Can you tell me please, in detail, what I need to do?

Write permissions need to be enabled in your hosting control panel in order to make changes to your website. You may not have to address the Write Permissions at all if you can upload text and add or update plugins, your Write Permissions are fine. When this happened to me, it was a plugin that wasn’t playing nicely with the rest of them. Try this:
    – go to your plugins tab in the dashboard and look at the list of plugins installed
-disable all the plugins and try to upload your images
-if it works, enable them again one by one making sure you’re still able to upload images
-if it doesn’t work, try a different browser

    Thanks gholemu and learningrl

I worked out what went wrong. As suggested, I went to ‘…Settings -> Media and make sure everything is right in there.’ and sure enough, I had changed the main url for this site from speakersprofessional.com to rosspage.me, but I had forgotten to change it in ‘settings>media’ – all done now and they load up fine. Muchas gracias senoras y senoritas! ??

    Glad it worked. ??

If no other problems, I guess you could mark the thread as resolved.
