how can I add more posts to my static page/front page

I have my static page set as my home/welcome page,and my posts page set to blog,but how can I keep adding new info to my static home/welcome page.Other blogs do that where they can keep adding new posts to their static/home page.I can only add to that same front/home page and then it shows no date and there is no line dividing the two.Am I doing something wrong
