Newbie: MP3 links do not invoke a player – just open a link

Hi guys

Newbie: MP3 links do not invoke the computer’s default player- just open page with the link shown as an attachment…. like ?attachment_id=137

I’m newish to WordPress.
After a year of sticking to the same 2010 build I thought I’d try again and rebuild from scratch.

I have created a page, and also created a post.
I have uploaded my mp3 files to the library.
I have then added a few mp3’s onto the page, and the post to test.

However, when you click on an mp3 link, all it does is open a post with the file shown as an attatchment link. e.g. ?attachment_id=137

If I click on this link it plays.
What do I do to simply get the page to play my mp3’s (without a special player)?
I do not want a plugin yet. Just the ability for people top play or download.
