• I’ve tried many times to get a local install of WordPress with Xampp without success.
In Xampp Control Panel MySQL is running but Apache starts for a couple of seconds then stops (no green highlighted running) although it states in the bottom dialog box ‘Busy Apache started port 80’.
    I cant access https://localhost – blank page.
Having searched for a solution without success I’d like to point out that this problem appears on Windows 7 32 bit and my other Win7 64 bit. Also I dont use Skype.
Ive tried using Wamp and have the same problems.
    Very frustrating!
    Any suggestions?

I’ve now tried Easyphp and I have problems.
    Having implemented the instructions:
    1. Activate the rewrite module
    2. Give permission for WordPress to rewrite
and restarted Apache I go on to:
    Start EasyPHP.
Once it has started, right click, chose Configuration and click PhpMyAdmin.

Unfortunately at this point a browser window opens with the message:
    Access forbidden!
You don’t have permission to access the requested directory. There is either no index document or the directory is read-protected.
If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
    Error 403

I’ve no idea what this means or how to resolve it.
So that’s another failure to add to the list:
Xampp, (NotEasyPHP) and Wamp which gave me the same problems as Xampp
    Any suggestions?

Check your Apache httpd.conf file. Sounds like you’ve disallowed directory indexing.
