Page 2 of Search Results redirect to homepage

Does it actually change the URL back to the first page, or does it just show identical content?

it does not change the actual URL to homepage, the url stays in the same https://MYSITE.com/page/2?s=frogs format

But the page that is loaded is the homepage.

It does not happen when I am looking in big category archives that have more than 1 page.

It only happens for search results that have more than 1 page.
