text duplicates below footer when I post

  • When I create a new post or create a new page, the text duplicates below the footer. Here are examples of the duplication:

    I recently upgraded my version of wordpress from a really old one (wordpress 2.1 maybe or something like that–it was about six years old) Prior to the upgrade I did not have this problem. I have seen a lot of other people posting about duplicates, but everyone’s situation seems to be a bit different.

    I have my own custom theme installed.

    I have temporarily deactivated my short list of plugins to no avail.

    The duplication does not appear to happen when I edit an existing page, in other words a page that was created prior to the upgrade to wordpress 3.1.

    Do you observe the same issue if you switch to the default Theme (i.e. Twenty Ten or Twenty Eleven), or only with your custom Theme?

    Have you updated your custom Theme for compatibility with the latest version of WordPress?

    I hired someone to upgrade to the new wordpress and I did not know the themes would have to be updated for compatibility also.

    I haven’t tried switching to default theme because I’m a bit of a novice and afraid of messing things up (already lost two pages yesterday by meddling in the wrong settings page)

    I have a theme update I have not installed because I was afraid it would override my custom theme. But it sounds like this may be the problem? Here is what it says below (boldface added)

    Please Note: Any customizations you have made to theme files will be lost. Please consider using child themes for modifications.

    You have version installed. Update to 1.7.2.
