I built a site a couple years ago on wpmu2.9 to separate different post types before custom post types existed. It was my first big piece of work but now we are looking to bring it all over to wp3.3 and I have built several custom post types to house the old post content for each respective blog from the mu site. [note: I want to use a single install wp3, no more multisite as custom post types alleviated my reason for the original mu setup.]

I have looked around in the database for the site and there are a lot of duplicate post ids so I’m wondering if I export each mu blog, import to new site, find and replace the post types, what happens with duplicate ids? I’ve read over upgrading from mu to wp3 but I could use some clarification on what or how to do this with the least amount of complexity.

Going from MU 2.9x to WP Multisite 3.3 is easy.

    Upgrade manually to 3.0
    Upgrade manually to 3.2
    Upgrade automatically to 3.3

You may even be able to skip the 3.2. However you MUST manually upgrade to 3.0, because there’s no direct path to 3.3 from 2.9

    However….

I would probably do it manually there. Install a new 3.3 in a subfolder, and import/export posts.
