• Ok any WordPress genii…

I was trying to move my WP to the root directory instead of /wp where I installed it… this is because it was in some browsers not displaying the site but instead a lod of texxt which included the login and password! In the process I buggered it up completely…

Tried to move it all back – but I’ve made a mess… getting more back all the time but its by trial and error – not ideal.

got expensive press adverts going out Tuesday publicising the malfunctioning website…

Oh yes – the site: https://www.frenchfishing.net

you might have to look at https://www.frenchfishing.net/wp to find anything… although I have put the re-direct back to /wp rather than the root directory I was trying to move it to…

    oh poop!

I’ll keep working on it… but any help to such questions as “where has my dashboard gone” would be gratefully recieved. as well as the thing I was trying to do in the first place…

    Help please!

    Nik

    That’s not good.

Right now as far as I can tell your installation is working so it’s not all bad. If you haven’t already done so, give this a read.

Moving WordPress like that is not really that hard but just for giggles, backup your files and database and keep those safe.

Good backups are your friend and you do value your work, right? ??

The URL https://www.frenchfishing.net/wp/wp-login.php seems to work, can you login and visit this page?

    https://www.frenchfishing.net/wp/wp-admin/options-general.php

From that page, can you share what the WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) settings are? It will make the next steps easier.

If both values are set to https://www.frenchfishing.net/wp then just do these steps. If they’re not set to that, reply back.

If they are the same then copy (not move) everything from /wp into the root directory of your web server (just below /wp).

All directories and all files. Once that’s done visit https://www.frenchfishing.net/wp/wp-admin/options-general.php and set the WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) to https://www.frenchfishing.net.

Visit https://www.frenchfishing.net and see if it worked.

If it didn’t work then either reset those settings back to the way they were or get ready to restore your backup.

    Jan,

Many thanks for your kind reply.

I did back it up… that’s why its back. It is in both locations now – I did a “move” not a “copy” as that was the only option the free ftp program I was using offered me… I had to manually restore back to the original locations. Having spent 3 hours getting it back tonight, Ill have a look at your mail tomorrow night!

No idea what the original problem was either – a friend in California on a strange browser – I told her to look at the site – and she sent me all that came up – some code which included the login and password!

    Thanks again sir.

We need to know what browser she is using as It should not show the code opens fine Firefox
