Shortcode attribute defaults will not override

Ok this is what I have for the shortcode. The defaults are fine… My problem is that they do not get over ridden besides for the ‘content’ default… all others do not override?! Why?! Someone please help.

[twitter username=blah] or [twitter username=”blah”] still outputs the username default ‘rubyfiredesigns’. How can this be?
