Icons and images don't show

Hello, new to WP. Just installed 3.1 and for some reason the text editing icons don’t show up above the text window when editing pages. The little boxes are there, but I have to hover over it to see what it is.

Similarly, I also seem to have a problem getting images to show up when uploading. I can select from my local comp and see it there but after it goes through it’s “crunching” process, the images is never displayed. On my site I get an “Image not found” screen although it’s apparently in my gallery (but again, it is not displayed).

I have already upgraded to 3.3.1 and have seen no change. Tried on Chrome, Firefox and IE, all doing the same thing.

Ugh. Help please? Thanks in advance!
