background problems

Hey all I was wondering if I could get some help. If you go to https://www.scatterscapes.com Maybe you can see what I’m trying to do. On the main page I want to have a slide show of images that fade. I’m using the plugin Portfolio Slideshow for this, and it seems fine, the only trouble I’m having is making the pictures resize so that they take up only the space within what you can see with in the white space/border. Does anybody have any insight into this?

Also, on other pages you can see just a lot of white space. This is really killing me because I was trying to find something less bland to put there, but when I try to use a custom background plugin called WP background plugin it just seems to hide it behind the white space. This is for my girl, and I’d really like to try and come through for her, but am really running up against my limitations of know how….
