• If you look at my blog at https://mayurpatel.org you’ll see that I have my version of “asides” set up (called Extra! Extra!). This basically uses the miniposts plugin to filter out a category during the loop to prevent it from appearing on the main page. Well, the problem I have recently discovered is that the native search function of WP only searches what seems to be “in the loop” so to speak. Thus, only my main posts are searched through the search form and all posts in my miniposts are ignored.

I have installed the search everything plugin but that isn’t helping. Is there any solution anyone is aware of?

  • Copy index.php to search.php and change it to a normal loop in your theme.

Hmm, I don’t quite understand, I never altered by search.php when I filtered out the category in index.php. What am I missing here?

Copy index.php to search.php, which probably doesn’t exist in your theme. Then change the loop in search.php to a normal loop that doesn’t ignore categories like the loop in your index does.

Search.php does exist, it has a normal loop.
