hi. i’m redesigning a site i made in Dreamweaver in WordPress. I’m using NextGen for the gallery so my client can manage the images. I’ve managed to recreate the layout for the images but I have a right sidebar of links which is being pushed down the page. I want it to be along side the images. i don’t have a link for the WordPress stuff I’m doing but here is what I designed in Dreamweaver so you can see the layout i need sorry folks. tried to add this as a link but it didn’t appear in the post.

  • Simplest thing to try is in Gallery -> Gallery Settings and specify a Number of columns for the images. Start with one less than you see now.

do you mean to go into the Dashboard in WP and go to Gallery there? I don’t have gallery -> gallery settings. Do I go in to the style sheet?

I’m on nextgen version 1.8.3. In wordpress click on ‘Gallery’ then ‘Options’ then the ‘Gallery’ tab and under the heading Gallery Settings you’ll see Number of columns.

i’ve just tried that and I’ve changed from 4 columns to 3 columns which changes my layout of images but doesn’t affect the position of my sidebar. do you have any other suggestions as to what I can do? I guess I just don’t understand if I need to change the width of a particular div and if so which one and if i do it through the theme or through NextGen. thanks

    Thats me out then.

You could use firebug to inspect the area around the start of the sidebar and see if there’s something obvious and if so edit it within firebug to see if you can fix the problem.

You’ll generally get more help if you can include a link to the problem site/page.

Thanks for that Mike. I’ll give the firebug a shot. this my first time designing WordPress. The original site designed in Dreamweaver is up and running. I’m planning to replace it with the WordPress when it’s done which is why it’s not live yet. Do you know is some other way i could make it live for people to view?

It wouldn’t hurt to try a couple of other wordpress themes. If the problem is always present then its something you’ll need to resolve. If it goes away then you have the option of using the working theme.

Access to your site depends on where it is. I develop my own sites on the web, then password protect the site in my webhosting cpanel. That way I can give out the password if I need help and change it afterwards.
