    Hi,

After an unfortunate incident involving my ISP backing up the wrong disk before re-imaging my server I’m now left with nothing but a recent mysql dump to recover my WP site from.
I’ve got the posts back but the comments are all 404ing yet I can see them in the database. Is there any way of restoring comments from the db back into the filesystem?

    Cheers

  • WordPress doesn’t store anything on the filesystem. You say you have a mysql dump, have you restored with it already? If not, see Restoring Your Database From Backup. It’s strange that your comments are ‘404ing’, could you provide some more detailed information on the errors you’re getting?

It’s not a case of putting them into the filesystem – the database is the system.

Have you recreated the site ? Have you permalinks if you had them ?
    Link to your site ?

(And who is this incompetent host ? And have they adequately compensated you for their behaviour ?)

All sorted now – I had to recreate the .htaccess file to get mod_rewrite/permalinks working ??

Sorry – I should have looked through the Site Admin pages more thoroughly before panicking and posting here!

    Cheers

Related: My friend who blogs at sayanythingblog.com used to host at https://powweb.com/. He stopped after they “accidently” deleted his account, database and template.

Also: I host a server at theplanet.com, which I am about to leave .. after receiving 50+ hours of downtime in the past two weeks. I had an OS refresh done and put my data on a second hard drive, which they “forgot” to put up after the OS refresh.

Then I had them take out the second hard drive after I was done, and “accidently” took out the primary hard drive. what kind of morons are working there.

BTW: I have heard nothing but good things about https://www.serverpronto.com and https://www.serverbeach.com

server beach is a branch off of rack space too I think.
