• When I try to edit the sidebar of my theme it tells me this:

    Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/theme-editor.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I have taken over this website from the previous owner and don’t really have all that much experience with WordPress yet, so any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

    Thanks for your quick help!

I just switched to another custom made theme and it seems to be a theme specific problem. How would I go about fixing it?

Impossible to say without an indepth examination of the theme’s files. If you are conversant with theme development, I’d suggest that you turn debug on and enable error logging to try and track down the issue(s).
