How to add images (flags) to a wordpress menu?

You can add html to a wp post or page, but as far as I see I can’t add an image -or the html that would lead to it- to a post/page TITLE.

Adding it to the title would in my mind enable me to have different languages of the same blog as I’d be able to create a permalink structure for each language in a way that was presentable to the visitor.

There’s a flags widget which is half broken but allows flags on widgets, not menus, and these widgets have to go on the sidebars only, and all they direct to is the mydomain.com/lang not to a direct translation of the page/post in question.

Then there are other options, or there were, like global translator plugin which hasn’t been working sometime and I don’t think it enabled flags on the menu either. Others like qtranslate want professional services and all they add is the country code text as permalink for now.
