The volunteer who set up our website has refused to turn over admin/login information to allow the Board to assume administration of the site. How do we go about shutting the website down until we can resolve this situation?

Let’s assume that you actually are the rightful owner and fully qualified pilot of this elegant and powerful WordPress aircraft that’s been hijacked. ??

But seriously, now… Log into your account on your web host. Locate the tools for database administration – probably phpMyAdmin. Follow the procedure for resetting the admin password.
After that, change your ftp account password to prevent any further access from unwanted individuals.

Now, log into your WordPress site as the administrator, and remove any accounts that you no longer desire to have acess.

Not sure how else to describe it when an unauthorized person has control of your website and will not relinquish?

Tom Clark, I would probably have titled the topic “Website held hostage”…. been there done that. I handled the situation exactly as ClaytonJames suggested. Worked fine….

Held hostage or hijacked. Unfortunately we don’t have the admin username to be able to log into the account.

    what is the website?
the one associated with your user name is hosted at wordpress.com

Tom Clark: please access https://dnsgoodies.com/ – in the second input area (Whois – Domain/IP), input your domain name, including the extension (.com, .org, etc.) then click the Whois button. That will give you a great deal of information as you scroll down through the results.

Jaelli- Thanks for the help. Unfortunately I have no experience navigating these site so I’m unable to figure out how to log into our account on the host site wordpress.com without our username and password. I’m hoping their tech support will get back to me.

Ah, I haven’t ever used wordpress.com (always host my own WP sites on a shared server through a host provider – Network Redux in this case) – but from years back I recall that the support there was said to be quite good.

Good luck to you, I hope things work out for you!
