    Sorry to hear that but I don’t know if you have tried this extra css feature that come’s with the plugin…you copy ‘advanced-recent-posts-widget.css’ inside the plugin css folder to your active theme directory (i.e /wp-content/themes/mytheme) and you make your customization there.
