buddypress or something different?

I have a site where I am looking to post various pdfs that are only available to people who sign up to the site. So basically would be a “members only” section. Is buddypress the best answer for this or is something else a better solution?

I currently have buddypress installed & messing around with it, but not sure if it is ultimately what I need. Might be more advanced than needed.

Any support on this is appreciated.
