WordPress Not Writing Files

I just installed wordpress on my site and everything works fine except for when I attempt to make a new page or post. This is where it gets interesting.

Let’s say I try to make an ‘About’ page. I make the page, type everything up, publish it, etc.

On the home/index page, there is a link to the page now, but clicking on it yields a 404. If I go into the files, there is no wwww.website.com/wp/about/, or any “about” file anywhere. If, however, I go through wordpress and edit pages, the about page is there and I can edit it and see what I originally made.

The same thing happens with posts. Could this have something to do with db permissions or is it something else? Thank you for your help.
