Preventing category bubbling

  • I’d like to stop a new post bubbling up from the category it’s placed in a sub category bubbling up and showing in the parent as well.

    Example: I have the main category and Articles category. I want to put a post only into Articles and not have it show up in Main.

    Can I do this?

  • Is Articles a subcategory of Main? In that case when you click on the category name (which takes you to the category archives) all the posts from that category and its subcategories will be displayed.

    Well, actually no, Articles and Main are siblings on the same level.
    Main is the default category.

    So what I would like to happen is:

    I post to Articles and the post DOES NOT show up in main.

    before you click publish, are you unchecking the the main category? Generally, there’s a default category that has to be unchecked, you can choose the default cat in your options.

    Yes, I am unchecking the main category – which is listed as the default.
    It makes no difference. The post still shows up there.

    Okay, I’ve figured out a way – just put a conditional in the loop.
