does home page show ALL acitve posts?

Your home page (= the main page of your blog) shows exactly as many posts as you’ve set in the Options > Reading.

Edit. Define “active” post ??

He may be refering to this forum. The recent discussions is the 25 most recently replied to threads, despite origination date.

I was wondering whether the main blog page shows the active posts (from any month) or just posts for the current month? And is there a limit to how many it shows?

The limit is set by your politeness toward the visitors ??
I guess you can set it to 999, but I’d never go to such a blog.

So is it the active posts or just the posts for the current month?

That’s set to in your admin interface, I think it defaults to the 10 most recent posts. It can be set to either days or posts, and any number you like.

Im just trying to work out how to setout my site ??

You can show your active posts, recent replies, most popular topics etc with plugins and then by adding the tags (which are provided by the plugins) into your sidebar, or wherever you’d like them to be.
