Several Twenty Eleven mod questions

Hey all.
I’ve been playing around with this theme, slowly getting it to take shape. I’m using a child theme, so i’ll slip in my current child theme css, and i won’t make any changes until i hear back from you kind people.

I have a few questions for y’all.

1. Centering nav menu text
As you can see i’ve done a code which i got from this forum, to center, but it doesn’t appear to be working.

As you can also see, this code seems to have made the nav bar a couple of pixels taller, meaning the text isn’t centered vertically either, and also when a link is highlighted, the block highlighting doesn’t reach the bottom of the nav bar. Anyone know how to fix this?

2. Margins
I’d really like to move all the text content UP and to the LEFT in all the pages where i use the “sidebar” template. Ideally i’d probably like to move the content in the pages with the default template too.

3. Remove the word ‘HOME’ from the home page.
Can this be done. I really, really, don’t want it there. My visitors don’t need to be alerted by large text that they are at the home page.

4. Blog on home page?
Is it possible to get a few posts from my blog (NEWS) turn up as the HOME page content?
