• Hi,

I attempted to install this plugin, however it doesn’t work.

After installation I selected the options for which fields I wanted the custom widgets, went into the post and selected ‘customize’ then selected new widgets and saved. both the preview and the publish states don’t show the changes.

I am currently building a theme and don’t have anything special in there that could break it.

And no, it doesn’t work in the TwentyEleven theme.

Having read some other posts, it looks as if the older version still works, I will revert back to that for the time being.

Hope you can fix this soon.

Ok it seems to be working now…

It seems as if the plugin is extremely picky. You must click save on each added widget then press update, however this still seems to be tempermental.

    Dear Scoe,
Have you tried with default WordPress sidebar to see its behavior?
    TwentyEleven does not have sidebar

    Hi,

Yes I did, and it was the same issue, however since it started working, I haven’t had any problems. I don’t know what caused or fixed the issue.

    Regards

    Dear Scoe,
If that is the same issue do you think it is WordPress or plugin issue?

I would say it’s a plugin issue. However this is based on me being able to find other people leaving posts about a similar issue.

Suggested changes that might make it easier to use:

    1. Once a widget is added to the sidebar, automatically save it, don’t rely on people having to press save on each widget.
    2. Make the ‘Customize’ radio option more obvious, from a UI point of view, it is easily missed.

    Regards,
    Scoe

    Dear Scoe,
What we meant is: have you used WordPress sidebar widgets feature and do you see the same thing, or different?
Custom editing in widget would need a Save, while its position if changed by drag drop could be saved automatically.
Please check default WordPress behavior first.

    Hi Tien,

I have just attempted to use this plugin again on another site. I still had issues however I was able to identify the problem.

If the default widget area has no widgets, a custom widget area (using this plugin) won’t work. However if you add one in, it will.

Nope, I take that back, not working again….

I can change a widget that I have selected as default. But I can’t add a new one. It doesn’t save.

Ok to further this… the above comment is also not true. The plugin seems to be working with some widgets and not others. e.g. it works with the custom menu widget, but not the text widget. It works with some of my created widgets, but not others (despite them being very similar in code).

Oh the fun with this plugin. Does anyone know of another plugin that does similar to this one? I don’t want to use dynamic widgets because I would like a different widget on almost every page (there are lots of pages).

As I mentioned, some are working, but most aren’t.

    The ones that are:

    • Tags
    • Blogroll
    • Pages

All of the rest aren’t working. That includes custom made widgets.

Tested on the 2010 theme and on a custom theme with no extra content.

    Hello,

I’ve got the same problem. When I drag and drop a widget on my sidebar widget area (on pages or posts) it seems to save and then just put a “-1” and nothing more happens.
I can add widget on the wordpress widget original area. Then every widget is working well (even in customize mode) so I desactivate widgets I do not want but some are still activated even if I desactivated it…
    Thanks for any help !

Theme : Custom Community (free version).

Please download latest version and try again.

I confirm there is a problem, this plug-in is no longer working in WordPress latest releases. I made a new web site using latest version of WordPress and the uDesign theme installed in subfolder /wordpress using modified index.php as per Codex and with “pretty” page name links enabled. You can see it here: https://rotarycorfu-int.org

The custom post widget was “successfully” installed. I have been testing it using my “Admin” page and some posts with Categories added. Unfortunately the “posts-for-page” calls inserted onto my main pages are not being interpreted at all – and so what is displayed is what you see when you go to the “About” page on my web site. It’s just displayed as text.
