I too have been looking for an event plugin that would suit my needs, but have come up short. This is getting closer, mostly because it isn’t bloated with a bunch of unnecessary features at this early stage. Still not totally what I’m looking for, but very close. Unfortunately my PHP skills are crap or I would write my own as well.

I am basically looking for a simple plugin that will publish and display events for music venues, preferably as posts. There are a bunch geared towards musicians/bands/etc, but aren’t flexible enough to strip out the bloat (tours, stored artist/venue databases, and pull it off without some serious hacking (and breaking). I’m absolutely certain I’m not alone in this, I just simply don’t have the skillset required to make it work. If anyone is interested in bringing my dreams to life, I have a pretty thorough outline of what I’d like to build and even started mocking up a UI (I’m more of a designer/CSS/HTML guy than a PHP/jQuery/etc wiz).

If you were to use calendars as venues and events as per normal. What else would you want? From reading your post it looks like you want the events to display as normal posts: what do you mean? In the feed? On the posts frontpage/news page? etc…

Yes, ideally I would like my events to be handled as posts (which your plugin does). This gives some flexibility for customizing how events are displayed (styling) when viewed as either single posts or an ordered list of upcoming events on a specified events page (a feed).

I realize this can easily be done by just creating a custom post type for events without a plugin, but a plugin such as yours allows for an admin panel on the backend with input fields specific to events, so as not to confuse them with normal posts or other custom post types.

Where this plugin falls short for me is that it only gives the option to display the events on a calendar, which I have no interest in displaying on a site. Rather, I would like to display the events (with various meta custom meta fields, a featured image for show posters, etc) as an ascending feed (loop, whatever) with events disappearing from the feed after they expire (say, midnight after the event has started if an end date/time hasn’t been specified).

I should mention that this is kind of off topic, as it doesn’t specifically relate to your plugin and its performance. Your plugin works as advertised and does exactly what it’s set out to do. I think I just need to bite the bullet and put aside some time to learn enough WordPress-specific PHP and make my plugin happen.

I’ve just tagged 0.2.0 which has an extra shortcode [eventlist]

Effectively it is a list of events – hopefully it is more along the lines of what you wanted.
