I have tried various supposed solutions to changing the wordpress ports settings from the default 80 to 1111 to no avail.

Everything else works but not WordPress (WAMP). Am I just ignorant of the solution here or is it intentional?

If I install WP to a WAMP set up and working on a different port will it then set the various parameters internally to run properly on the “non-standard” port?

  • WordPress doesn’t care what port you use and there are no port setting to change within it

    Hi Loyia,

I’ve setup WAMP before, and I ran into the problem of no one else being able to see my sites because my ISP blocked the outgoing port 80. I then changed the setup for traffic to route over 8080 instead of 80, as my ISP did not block traffic on port 8080 outgoing.

Why is it that you’re trying to change port settings within WordPress?

If you using skype then chnage the port no of skype as skype use port 80

    Thanks for the responses.

To simplify all of this, is there a clear and simple way to making changes (in Settings/General) after the fact in WordPress?

No – there are no port settings in WordPress. What do you have entered for the urls in Settings -> General? And what is the url for your server?

The URL settings in WordPress are = https://mydomain.com:1234/wordpress.
The URL (to get to WordPress) is the same.

An entry in the hosts file (127.0.0.1 mydomain.com) seems to have it running from inside the network as well as outside now. (I don’t know what else I might have done!???)

    Other issues/questions:
1 – Is there a setting to tell WAMP to run WordPress from it’s subfolder under X:\WAMP\www\Wordpress as opposed to moving the contents of WordPress to X:\WAMP\www\? I am now starting it up from the WAMP developement page till I am ready to put the site online. I should mention I will be self hosting.

2 – To get to my server using just https://mydomain.com without the port numbers suffix (https://mydomain.com:1234) I set up a domain resolving to my IP address/server at my DNS service provider and redirecting the primary domain using frame fowarding to this second ‘bridge’ domain. The above setup allows me to use https://mydomain.com or https://www.mydomain.com without appending port numbers and without the secondary domain name showing in the browser window. The question, is there another way to do this? Without using two domains?

    Thank you.

Thanks to those that helped out with this.
