• Hi folks,

Here is site (in the first stages of building). I am *brand* new to WP, and so far I’m very impressed, but I’m just missing one simple thing, I suppose:

How do I get my website to default to the homepage (the first page I am supposed to have in my theme)?

    My site: https://www.theagent13.com/wp/
What the theme looks like when working: https://www.theagent13.com/wp/

Is there a ‘map’ where I can outline pages? Im fairly savvy with tech in general, but I’ve hit a wall.

Thx in advance for any help.

Those two links are identical – should the second go somewhere else?

Generally, if you want the front page of your site to be a static page rather than the dynamic posts-index, you need to change the settings in Dashboard >> Settings >> Reading (You need to have created the page you want as your front page AND a page called ‘blog’ or ‘news’ first)

Oops. I meant to say ultimately it should look like this front page from the template I purchased:

I just figure out how to get it back to the ‘main’ homepage. i go into all kinds of preference, but nada.

Ah, do you understand the page template system?

That theme has a specific template for the frontpage/homepage. In order for the site to use that template, you have to tell WordPress to apply that template to a page that you’ve created.

    * So, create a new page if you haven’t already got a page called Home, or go into the edit-screen for that page if you do.

    * Over on the right hand side, you should see a box saying Page Attributes – one of the drop-down options will be Template – you should see an option there for Front Page or Home Page or something like that. Choose that template and save the page.

    * Then set that page as your Static Front Page in Dashboard >> Settings >> Reading

    That should work.

I appreciate your input / help. Thank you.

I just made a ‘home’ page and went dashboard >> settings >> reading at set it to “home” and now it just has my ‘test’ home page, but it doesn’t allow me to create all the extra things (sliders, etc) like I had originally been able to do.

Is there a clean way to totally delete a site and start fresh within WordPress?

    Thanks again

That looks like your page titled Home is still just using the default page template. You need to make sure that the page titled Home is calling the homepage template, as I described above.

There’s nothing wrong with the theme, and nothing wrong with your install. You just haven’t quite figured out the details yet.

I just checked your profile and see you do some webwork. If you work as fast as you reply, could you kindly e-mail me at [email protected]. If you have some time (today), I’d gladly pay you (paypal) to clean this up a bit and just get it ready for me to plug and play. Clearly, the template is great and this isn’t hard work for someone who knows the ropes.

    Thoughts?

Hey, you just caught me doing the school run, thus taking 20+ minutes to reply. Email coming your way.
