• So this is an odd bug I’ve noticed ever since upgrading to 3.2. It happens in all browsers, on different computers, but I’m always using Google Chrome.

When I am writing a post and I have visual editing selected, and I use the hyperlink button to create a hyperlink, assuming the cursor is at the end of a hyperlink where there are no proceeding characters, whenever I press enter, nothing appears to happen.

What actually happens is, if I flip to the HTML editor, a   is inserted, but my cursor in he visual editor remains at the end of the line of the hyperlink. Repeated pressing of the enter key creates more

My workaround is to type a character after the hyperlink, back the cursor up, and then press enter, and it will correctly insert a new line.

This happens with any hyperlink in the visual editor regardless of it it is created in the visual editor of the HTML editor.

I have several post based plugins such as After the Deadline, Advanced Spoiler, and TinyMCE Advanced but deactivating these plugins does not seem to fix the issue.

Does anybody have an idea of what is going on?

  • – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). Don’t forget the ones in mu-plugins. If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

I’m not aware of what mu-plugins are, however I deactivated all my plugins, and switched to Twenty Eleven, and the visual editor is still not correctly moving to the next line when pressing enter at the end of a hyperlink.

So seriously nobody else is getting this problem on a clean install of 3.2? Now I am worried. What’s the next step?

I am able to duplicate your experience in Chrome and in Safari but for me, merely adding a space before hitting enter works. This may be a bug but will require more research.

The   is normal and usually disappears once you enter a new character.
