Why are ?p=shortcodes not working

Just sent out some links on twitter, using the numbered shortcode:
New blog post: When Will I Be Sober? https://allaboutchris.org/blog/?p=1494.
And its giving me a 404 error. My custom permalinks are /%year%/%postname%/, and they work fine – https://allaboutchris.org/blog/projects/when-will-i-be-sober/.
Any ideas why?
