• Hi,

My admin panel is having slight problems. When in the ‘Add New Post’ panel, some buttons are not functioning:

    – Switching between ‘Visual’ and ‘HTML’ doesn’t work at all
    – Clicking ‘Edit’ next to the status, visibility and publish also doesn’t do a thing, except for changing the URL from https://www.mywebsite.com/wp-admin/post-new.php to https://www.mywebsite.com/wp-admin/post-new.php#edit_timestamp

The problem started a couple of weeks ago. I’ve recently updated my WordPress to 3.1.3. Maybe that’s causing the problem? I’ve automatically re-installed WP 3.1.3 via the ‘Updates’ panel, but that doesn’t fix the problem.

Also, I’ve updated to Firefox 5.0 recently. But the admin panel of my WP hosted blog IS functioning correctly, so I guess it’s not a browser problem.

Hope someone can help me out, because I use the Visual/HTML and Publish date functionality a lot! Now I have to do all my posts from Chrome or Safari (I’m on a Mac). Using these browsers everything seems to function correctly.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

    Thanks for the tips!

I’ve tried all of the above, except for the last point. But if it’s all working in other browsers, the wp-admin and wp=includes folders must be OK, right?

What technology is used for the dropdown animation when I click ‘status’, ‘visibility’ or ‘publish’? I’m getting the feeling the problem has got something to do with that. Because my URL does change after clicking EDIT, but the dropdown simply doesn’t start. Besides that, I’ve discovered that the button for uploading media is also not responding. The ‘media pop-up’ won’t show. Sometimes it does open, but if it does, it does so in a new tab. Strange right? As if rich animations like dropdowns and pop-ups don’t want to show…

What technology is used for the dropdown animation when I click ‘status’,

Javascript. I believe it all uses the jQuery library.

FireFox 5 is still a development release at this point so I’d lean toward not worrying about it yet. The browser may just be buggy or you are running an extension that isn’t compatible. I know you think that’s not it, but I’m not so sure.

Put define('WP_DEBUG',true); in your wp-config.php and see if you get any errors– or set WP_DEBUG to ‘false’ if you already have it set to true. Depending on where the error prints, WP_DEBUG can blow out javascript.

I have the same problem and have isolated the issue to NextGen gallery. It seems to break the admin panel. Posts with NextGen gallery shortcodes are inaccessible/not able to edit. It also breaks the Widgets page.

Any solutions on this? 3 of my WP sites are broken because of the 3.1.3 upgrade. ??

Hi have the same problem in Chrome, it’s look like the problem come from the new admin theme or i don’t know.

I’m having the same problem with the 3 links in the Publish section (Status, Visibility, and Published On) not working at all.

I’m running 3.2.1 and have tried both Firefox and Chrome with the same problem.
