    Hi everyone,

I’m new to WordPress and have run into a few difficulties.

This morning I transfered my blog over from Blogger to a folder on my server https://www.josalmon.co.uk/wordpress – this worked totally fine.

I then moved the blog location from /wordpress to the root folder https://www.josalmon.co.uk

Since then, I’ve had real difficulties – the blog shows up fine but when you click a permalink or go to the archives it won’t display and instead says:

    Not Found
The requested URL /wordpress/index.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I don’t understand why it’s trying to load out of the /wordpress folder

I’m using 1.5.1.1 and a theme called ShadedGrey from wpthemes.info

    Help!!

    Jo

Ok, I’m in PhpMyAdmin and I’m not sure what I’m meant to do. Here’s a screencap of where I am.

Ok, I changed siteurl to home and pressed ‘go’ but it doesn’t seem to have done anything. There was a message at the top that read:

    Affected rows: 1
    SQL-query:
    UPDATE wp_options SET option_name = ‘home’ WHERE option_id =1 AND blog_id =0 AND CONVERT( option_name USING utf8 ) = ‘siteurl’ LIMIT 1 ;

if that means anything to anyone?

Sorry to keep posting, I just don’t understand what’s going on. (not a devious attenpt to bump the post, I promise)

Anyway, I’ve managed to fix the problem for the time being – though it does mean I’ve got to have a messy post / archive url with the inclusion of “index.php” but I’ll try and solve the problem later – eyes seeing double so need a break!

Morning all, ok, still no resolution on the problems – I’ve decided it’s something to do with the .htaccess file – though what, I don’t know. Even though I’m using 1.5.1.1 it doesn’t seem to be generating the .htaccess file.

I really don’t know what to do – I’m stuck with index.php in the middle of my permalinks, which I don’t want. I tried updating the .htaccess file the way it suggests in the WP codex, but that crashed my site.

If I had known I’d have these problems, I doubt I would have switched to wordpress, as I don’t know enough to be able to fix anything. If anyone can help, please let me know.

    Thanks.

i also am having this problem, any ideas or suggestions?

    limbikity,

I finally managed to fix it by downloading some software called HTAccessible which you can get from https://www.tlhouse.co.uk/HTAccessible.shtml

What you do is create a .htaccess file using the software and upload it to your server.

Then update your permalinks in WP-Admin, copy and paste the code it generates into the .htaccess file you’ve just generated and upload it again.

    It should then work.

You can also make your own 404 error pages using the software.

I just wanted to add that after I upgraded from 1.5.1 to 1.5.3, my permalinks quit working with 404 not found error, and also when you clicked on my comments box you got the same error. After reading this post I checked the files on my server and saw that the htaccess file had vanished. Fortunately, I had followed the instructions on upgrading here and first copied all the files to my own computer, so all I had to do was upload the htaccess file and all works again!

Same thing happened to me. Thanks.
