Nonce Check

  • Hello,

    I work for a charity that supports people with anxiety disorders. We had an issue the other day where a user was presented with the message: “Failed Nonce Check”.

    That user took the word nonce as ‘a sex offender’ rather than the computer term. The person was extremely alarmed.

    Could ‘Nonce’ not be renamed to ‘Security’ to avoid this issue and make it clear to people who don’t know computer terms?

    Just offering my feedback.

    A nonce is a number used once. That’s why it’s called that way. It’s descriptive for a reason, so no, probably not going to be generalized.
