• I am just learning how to set up a site and have already gone thru the rough basics of setting up my own blog site. A friend asked me to set one up for her. I have obtained a separate domain for her with its own separate hosting acct. I would like to now set up the WP site.

The 1st time, of course, I downloaded WP and went thru the initial set-up. I do not need to download WP again (I have it on my desktop). I need to know how one creates a completely new, unique website with separate user name, passwords, etc.

Can someone point me to the instructions or a tutorial?

    Thanks!

  • Depending on your hosting provider, there may be an automatic installer. Log into your hosting Control Panel and see if they offer one.

Ahhh! This is great! I just wanted to make sure that any new installation of WP doesn’t overwrite or affect the WP I already have for my own completely unrelated site. If I do it thru Hostgator, via the login for her domain I set up, will this set up a separate WP file & DB area in my computer without messing with mine?

Thanks so much for your help!

If you have a separate hosting account for the new site, they won’t interfere with each other. With some hosting packages you can also have more than one domain on a given account, you can set up multiple instances of WordPress in separate folders, and you can point each domain name to the correct folder.

Okay – my sitch is the 1st. I purposely set her up completely separately so she can either learn to take over her own site or have someone else admin it for her if she wants.

    Thank you!!!!

While on this subject – just curious: What is the difference between just going to the WP.org home page and installing and installing via a host or installing via Fantastico, etc? Aren’t these all really doing the same exact thing? I installed my 1st & only one direct from the WP home page, so I have no idea.

Whether you install manually or with Fantastico, the results will be the same.
