• Hello, I am not too technical so please bear with what may be a stupid problem. ??

I had WordPress 2.7 (I think it was that or 2.8) running with a theme with no issues whatsoever.

I got a pop up in my Admin panel that I could update to 3.1.3, so I backed up my file shut off my plug ins and took the plunge.

After doing it and turning back on the plugins everything looked fine, but when I wrote a new article and published it privately to test, I saw the slider and thumbnail on the front page as it should be but when I click on the slider to take me to the article, I see a solid black page and no article.

Same thing happened when I clicked “Preview” when I was writing the article.

    Thank you for any advice.

  • Your theme and/or plugins may not be compatible with WordPress 3.1.3.

Start with switching to the Twenty Ten theme.

Also if you were on WP 2.7 (or even 2.8), check that all the plugins are updated.

ipstenu is there some way I can start working on a new version of my site using the twenty ten theme, while still having my current site online? I tried “theme test drive” etc, but doesnt work the way I want it to. I want it to work exactly like it does right now when I edit the online site.
You have to be able to create a new layout without having it online all through out the process I assume..

I use WordPress MultiSite and just use my test.ipstenu.org (yes, you can look at it) URL to play with things. But alternately, you could make a new, separate, WP install, and play there.

I generally import https://wpcom-themes.svn.automattic.com/demo/test-data.2011-01-17.xml to get some raw data to play with ??

Why is someone hijacking my thread?

    “Multisite Plugin Manager” ? =)

@iamnewatthis: Did you follow any of the advice posted above?

Im sorry. I thought the advice you got was enough since you didnt post anything more….

No need to be sorry, I appreciate the time anyone takes to try to give advice ??

    Esmi,

What advice was there to follow for me?

You said the theme may not be compatible, but everything looks fine and my old articles are fine too.

Someone suggested switching themes, which is not an option for me at this time.

I am trying to see what happened, not dump the theme I have had for 2 years, so I have to pass on that suggestion, though I really appreciate it.

I’m sorry but this is basic WordPress troubleshooting.

I also am trying to find out how I can use the OLD You Tube embed code as I did before because with the new one I can’t see where the video is in my post and do not know how to center it.

It goes to the extreme left on it’s own which I do not want.

I’ve deleted your bumps. We don’t permit them here.

You can use the old YouTube embed codes if you use the HTML editor. If you need more control and still want the GUI, I suggest Vipers Video Quicktags

Switch themes to TEST. Turn off all your plugins to test. If you won’t do that, we really can’t help you much.

    Thanks you for the reply.

I never said I would not turn off anything to troubleshoot, so I don’t know why you mentioned that.

Anyway, I put in the old YouTube code in HTML but when I click Visual to see the box that I used to be able to position in the middle of the article, it is not there.

I tried the Viper Video thing and it works great for my needs. Thank you for that suggestion very much.

I still was confused why after updating WP to 3.1.3 the Yellow You Tube box in visual editor stopped showing up. I was able to see where it was positioned and move it in WP 2.7 but not this new 3.1.3.

Thanks again for the VV suggestion.

It was removed from the Visual Editor due to licensing issues.
