    Hi guys

Sorry for having a bit of a rant but it really irritates me!

Every Wednesday I post an image with a link below. I want the image and the link centred, and I like to use the minimum of code. I also like the link to be a little bit below the picture. SO, I insert the picture, and then manually insert the link as follows:

<wordpress generated code including "P" centreing and image code>
     </br></br> <my link> </p>

You’ll see that I’ve inserted two carriage returns and a link between the image code generated by WordPress and the final “End Paragraph” mark; this keeps everything “neat and tidy” in my eyes, and also I’m effectively telling WordPress by modifying it that this is the code I want.

When I save it, it’s automatically modified by the WordPress engine to remove my carriage returns and put my link OUTSIDE the paragraph!! WHY?!

When I modify the code, I’d like it leaving alone, please!

I should point out that if I then re-enter my code and update the post, it stays as I wrote it… so why can’t it leave it the first time?

Are you doing this in the HTML editor or the Visual GUI one?

And are you switching back and forth between the two?

The original bit, inserting the image, is done in the “Visual” editor. Then I go to the HTML editor to change the code. I usually save the post from there.

Yeah, you’re gonna hate this one. Don’t do that.

Either use the Visual, OR the HTML, but you will lose your sanity (even more) if you switch between the two. This is a … sanitation quirk that happens when you switch between them. And yes, going back in to look at the post in visual will convert for you :/

    The right way to insert
in the Visual editor is to use shift-Enter as you type.

If you want to do it in the Visual Editor, put the image in, center it etc, then hit enter and start putting in your text. YES there will be the blank line, but in my quick test just now, I was able to backspace and delete the empty line, making my text RIGHT below the image.

Alternately you may want to experiment with captions.

    Brilliant, thank you.
