email notification

I was wondering the same thing, well about email notification. I have added a number of users to my blog and we use it like a forum for a creative writing goup that we have. How can I set it up so that we all get an email notification when a new post is made?

Which do people recommend? I’ve been trying Email Notification but it seems riddled with bugs. Most of my subscribers get raw html and I also get a bunch of strange errors on my settings page that I can’t seem to get rid of.

I have wp-email notification v 2.1.1 running on a site and don’t have problems notifying when a new post has been made.

Do you send the full text of your posts in HTML though?

No, just email notification that a new post has been posted.

My subscribe2 allows you to decide whether to send the full content of a post, just an excerpt (if one exists), or no post content at all, plus any amount of custom text you choose. You choose plaintext or HTML delivery. All recipients are BCCed to protect privacy; and if you’re on Dreamhost you can enable “batch” mode to deliver multiple messages each with no more than 30 unique recipients (because Dreamhost caps the number of recipients in all outgoing messages).

Everything (except the Dreamhost toggle) is configurable through your WordPress administrative interface.

Thanks Skippy. Subscribe2 seems to be quite a bit more mature than Email Notification. Two questions, I can’t seem to find where I can subscribe people manually.

And the subscribe form is in the correct place horizontally (i.e. in the main column) but vertically it starts below the lowest text in the sidebar, instead of at the top of the page. I’m using the default WordPress template (Kubrick), any ideas?

Christiaan: you can manually subscribe people by going to Manage -> Subscribers in your WP administration area.

Damn, I tested it a bunch of times just with one of my email addresses on it, and then after importing the rest of the list and posting an entry in my blog it didn’t send out a notification. I couldn’t send an email message through the script either… ??

Are you on Dreamhost? If so, follow the directions in the documentation for dealing with Dreamhost.

Note that other hosting providers may limit the number of recipients permitted in any email message, also. Even if you’re not on Dreamhost, it might be worth following the instructions for them, to see if that fixes your problem.

I spoke to my web host (Server Logistics) and they said they use sendmail and there’s no limit.

It seems some did receive notification too (at least 1 did). My initial judgement was based on the fact that I didn’t receive notification at the address I have subcribed to the list and neither did one other person who I asked. So it seems to have sent to some but not others. Any obvious reason for this type of thing?

Christiaan: are you 100% positive that the message didn’t get flagged as spam by the receivers?
