In the Options >> Discussions page, all of the following items are checked:

Usual settings for an article: (These settings may be overridden for individual articles.)

    * Attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.)
    * Allow link notifications from other Weblogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)
    * Allow people to post comments on the article

    E-mail me whenever:

    * Anyone posts a comment
    * A comment is held for moderation

    The rest are unchecked:

    Before a comment appears:

    * An administrator must approve the comment (regardless of any matches below)
    * Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
    * Comment author must have a previously approved comment

So the easy question…is that correct? It should be noted that all of the ‘contributors’ comments do not get put in the ‘Awaiting Moderation’ folder, just outside readers who comment.

Are there any other Admin areas that impact comments?

Feel free to try and leave a comment at a test article at https://motorcyclebloggers.com/2005/05/24/comments-fubar-again/

    Thanks

  • I just tried:
“There is no GD-Library-Support enabled. The Captcha-Class cannot be used!”

I know this should tell me the source of the problem, but I am still learning HTML and have not even gotten to php yet. My apologies for the newbie follow-up, but what does that mean?

Another piece of info: Something changed (I did get a new computer recently), because not too long ago all the comments worked properly.

    Thanks again…

GD lib is a way for your site to use images, in a way. Your host needs to have this installed, so I’d try and contact them and see if they can do this for you. IF they say they’ve already done it, then ask them for the path to GD and you might be able to edit the plugin to the dir that gd resides in.

“There is no GD-Library-Support enabled. The Captcha-Class cannot be used!”
Concerning the error msg above, just deactivate the corresponding comment plugin.

    Its something with Spam Karma…

I disbaled the check box for the following:

If comment looks ambiguous, use a Captcha as a backup check. (Important: you should run the Captcha test page once and ensure it is displayed properly before enabling this option).

…and got this error when leaving a comment (logged out of the blog):

“Spam Karma: Your comment looks suspiciously like spam and has been moderated. It will be displayed once the admin approves it.”

If I disable Spam Karma altogether, everything works. It is now clear to me that this is a case of operator error. Not so long ago I was exploring on the dashboard in all the settings (thinking I was smart enough).

FIXED!!! So what’s my solution: Don’t mess with something that’s not broke w/o knowing what the hell I’m doing. That and upgrade to 1.5.1.1 and Spam Karma 2

    Thanks for all the help!

If someone could humor me and comment to the article above, I would greatly appreciate it.
