• Hi,

Our site is using the K2 theme, and I’ve installed the SEO Ultimate plugin.

Using the plugin we manually write in a meta description for each post we make.

However, when we view the pages of the site which are indexed in Google, the descriptions that come up are not the meta descriptions we’ve typed in.

Does anyone know why this is?

And if so, how to solve it?

    Our site is: https://luxurycaraddict.com

Thanks for any help you can give.

  • Google does not promise to use meta descriptions, emphasis mine.

…Google does support several other meta tags. This meta tags page documents more info on several meta tags that we do use. For example, we do sometimes use the “description” meta tag as the text for our search results snippets…

So basically it’s a write and hope, and we ‘may’ use it if we feel like it. Wow, thanks so much Google. Maybe they’d like to change my title as well?

Actually, I understand why they do it. Trusting those meta descriptions would be just as prone to abuse as trusting keywords. You could, for example, describe your viagra scam site in the most innocent of terms.

Honestly, this isn’t Google’s fault. This is the result of widespread attempts to game the system.

Fair point. I can see why they’d do that.
