I recently upgraded my theme to a genesis/lifestyle theme. In order for it to run, I had to upgrade to latest wordpress. Because I had no access to my dashboard, I manually downloaded the wordpress 3.1.2 and manually upload all files and directories except wp-content.

I now have 2 problems. Small problem is I cannot drag and drop widgets or custom menus – can live with that.

Big problem is when I go to edit a post or page, all I get is blank screen in the visual tab. No editing buttons or anything. I switch over to html and that seems find. I switch back to visual the whole “window” where I would normally type disappears alltogether. And then, I cannot even switch over to html.

I’ve tried re-uploading all the files but it seems to have no affect.

Does sound familiar to anyone and can anyone help me.

    thanks,
    jack

  • switch to default twenty ten theme to see if the problem is theme related.

    Gave it a try.

no effect, the “visual” editor screen starts blank with no edit buttons, then disappears alltogether when I to to html editor, then come back.

By the way, I went back to the old theme I was using before and no difference, so it is most likely not theme related.

On another note, I tried updating an article through the html editor and pasted a resource back into it.

the result as you can see here is a wreck – have no idea what is happening behind the scenes that is causing this:

I keep the older wp-admin directory and renamed it to wp-admin old before uploading.

Do you think there would be any value in using the the old wp-admin and see if that will restore everything, or would I be making it worse?

    thanks,
    jack
