since manually upgrading and then re-installing from dashboard, i have lost drop and drag capability. was a problem with widgets until i read the post on using add and edit functions of screen options.

but cannot set custom menus because i cannot drag submenus to main menus.

anyone have any ideas on what file i may have left out or what i screwed up.

    thanks,
    jack

I had this problem with Chrome recently, and had to dump my browser cache. Try that (or test in a second browser).

is that deleting all the files on internet option under tools.

    Yeah ??

What govpatel said is how to dump cache and force a re=cache for the page you’re ON. The way you suggested clear them ALL for every page you’ve visited.

gave it a try and no luck. I’m thinking the only possible culprit is obviously me when I manually uploaded wordpress3.1.2. I must have left a file out. but when I automatically updated again from the dsahboard, I assumed that this action would cover again files I might have left off. perhaps the solution is to go back the old version of wordpress and start over. what do you think? waste of time or not?

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    thanks esmi,

gave it try, but no effect. still thinking best shot now is to backup all data, delete current wordpress and go back to old wordpress. then try and upgrade automatically versus the manual route that I took. gotta back by visual editor back

btw, gave twenty ten theme a try and no luck there either.

    Ipstenu, govpatel,esmi,

thank you for taking the time to help me. it is resolved.

what looked like a armeggedon had a happy ending.

i manually deleted all files except wp-content. i manually uploaded wp 3.2. at the end it asked me to create a wp-config. i inputted the mysql info and it installed wp. and completely wiped my entire site. 17 months of work gone. needless it was a disaster. yet instead of panic, i was eerily calm.

i contacted dreamhost and they quickly restore all it back to what my site was a couple of days ago.

and in the process i now have drop/drag and have the visual text editor.

i think uploading 3.1.3 fixed whatever was wrong when i uploaded 3.1.2. and thankfully dreamhost returned my site to me.

    anyhoo…

    thanks all
    hyo
