Author role doesn't work

  • WordPress provides 5 role levels – subscriber, contributor, author, editor, admin. Author is supposed to allow a logged in member with role set to suthor to edit pages that he owns, but in my website (WP/BuddyPress/S2Member CMS website – not a blogsite), author behaves just like Contributor. What so I do to make Author functional?
