How much do you charge?

  • Hey,
    So Im starting a business where I create websites using wordpress for other people. I do utilize the free themes provided but set up everything including hosting, domain setup, email, website content etc.

    Now my question is: how much do you charge or should I charge for the service?
    An approximate will be greatly helpful. And any other tips you may have.

    As WordPress is open source and free, you are not able to charge anything for it except for the amount of time it takes you to set up for your client.

    As to all open source cms, you could charge your clients on an hourly rate basis with the amount of customisation and content needed.

    The hourly rate depends on how skilled you are on working on the cms.

    As the OP said, he wants to charge for the SERVICE, which is 100% kosher ??

    It sounds like what you’re doing is what’s called Turnkey services (you set it all up and hand it over). The people I see who do this charge no less than $100/hour (one place does a flat $200 to move your extant site to a new host). I’m a $250/hour person, and no I don’t get much work, but then again, I’m not LOOKING for it right now (I have a day gig).

    I was just getting ready to post on here that I wanted to know if there was a forum thread that dealt with people that do wordpress work. I currently have a theme in progress that I need finishing up. I already have wordpress installed on bluehost (and will keep it on Bluehost) and have had someone start modifying the Magicblue theme to what I want but it is not working out and I do not have the time or knowledge to complete it. What I’m looking for is somebody to finish the theme based on a mockup I have. I already have all my content and after the theme is the way I want it I am going to try and add all my content. It is not a blog but an informational website for my business.

    I currently have a full site working but it is not in WordPress. The reason I am switching is I want to be able to make edits to my site when I need to. How much experience do you have with WordPress? Do you have any themes that you created that I can see? If you come up with an hourly rate, let me know.

    Also anyone else out there interested? If I should post this somewhere else, please let me know. Thank you.
