White Screen of Death; Please Help Me

Well I think the easiest thing for you to do would be to deactivate the plugin, and you can do that most easily by logging in.

Use your domain and add /wp-admin/ to the end of it to get to the login screen.

If you can’t get to log in, then you can ftp and navigate your way to the /wp-content/plugins/wp-super-cache directory and just rename that wp-super-cache to something else; it should automatically deactivate the plugin for you. You might have to log in and out to make the system update itself to realize the plugin is not there anymore.

It’s kind of funny I didn’t think /that/ was the white screen of death, I always thought it was “Error establishing a database connection.”

Thanks for the quick response Rob:). Not only have I deactivated it, but I have deleted the files from my database completely, including the ones written by the plugin automatically in my wp-config.php and .htaccess files, and still no dice. I’m waiting to hear back from my host to see if there are any errors in the PHP, but this is freaking me out. One minute the website is up and running and the next, a white screen. I backed-up before installing the cache plugin, so at least I have that going for me

I sent you an email, the problem is probably a conflict with your other plugins. Can you deactivate them all – don’t delete! – and see if the problem goes away?

If deactivating them all sounds insane then answer back with just how many plugins you have also installed.

And who’s omnis, never heard of them.

I have 12 plugins. I don’t mind deactivating them, but since I’ve already deleted the cache plugin, would that even help? Omnis is supposedly pretty well know, they were recommended to me by a developer friend of mine. I hadn’t heard of them before his recommendation though. I’ve never had any problems with them. I don’t know you so I shouldn’t joke – the fact that I haven’t heard of omnis means nothing, don’t take that to heart, please.

It would appear that the problem was created by a conflict with the cache and one of your plugins, and by deactivating them all you’ll confirm that at least the vanilla site works.

Then you can reactive them step by step, ideally one at a time but if you know a certain few should be A-ok, go ahead and activate them and test from there, etc. You’ll either get it all back or something will cause you a glitch and you’ll have narrowed it down.

But, don’t be surprised if deactivating everything and reactivating everything does indeed work, as the conflict is resolved by deactivating that plugin and reactivating it again. the problem is… which plugin is it, we’re not sure.

Okay great..I appreciate that, I will definitely try it and no worries, I didn’t take the Omnis thing to heart. I really don’t know if their any good myself since I don’t have anything to compare them to, but so far so good:)

Well it could be something that requires resetting by the host – and you probably know about as much as I do there, but lets see first if your site runs without any plugins.

So i just deactivated them all, deleted all web history, cookies, and cleared the cache, went the my website and…………..still the white screen of terror.

One more possibly quick tip: make sure there is no blank line at the end of wp-config.php.

Check the Supercache readme. There’s a section called “If all else fails” that will give you some good tips and a troubleshooting section that should help too.

In reality it’s a php error in one of these files: wp-config.php, wp-content/advanced-cache.php or wp-content/wp-cache-config.php – take a look at them, even if you think you’re not a coder this is a good time to become one and make your site better!
