• Hi, I have just started work on my new Work-a-holic wordpress theme by Graph Paper Press and am having a few problems with the fixed homepage text. (My site is emilycorfe.com)

Does anyone know how to get rid of the text right in the middle of the homepage that says:
“Hi! We design beautiful websites. Not just beautiful but usable websites. Be sure to check out what I have done and contact us if you want to improve yours as well.”

I assumed this was a widget, but apparently not.

Also, does anyone know how to get rid of the widgets at the bottom of the homepage and inside the website altogether? I would rather have a cleaner site with my portfolio work (minus all the ‘latest news’ stuff at the bottom).

As far as I can figure, the only way to get rid of the initial descriptive widget text at the bottom of the page (about how to edit widgets 1, 2 and 3) is to replace it with other widgets.

However, my main issue here is getting rid of all that text right in the middle of the page.

Any help would be fab!!! ??

    Thanks

  • Hi Emily! I had the same issue. I′m not an expert, I recently started to configure my portfolio with the same theme.

I find that text located in index.php you can delete those lines and it works ok.

I hope I can help you.

Hi Jesica, thanks for your reply. This may seem like a dumb question, but where is the index.php? I looked in the appearance/editor and the css files there but there isn’t one called index.php. Whenever I look in the files that I have there they all seem to be pretty short and none of them have that text I’m trying to get rid of?
I can’t believe graph paper press don’t offer support for this kind of thing! lol

    Hi again,

By the way because I need to have a static homepage for my portfolio, I figured out that (at least I think so) I need to go to Settings and then Readings, and change the homepage setting to static page. However, it is then blank without any of the boxes, and I can’t for the life of me find a way to put those boxes back in to a blank page!

I have spent the last few days going through every forum and google search imaginable with no luck! I need to have this website up and running in the next few days, so am finding this really frustrating.

Ok, so I figured out how to delete all that text (when I eventually found the index.php file! lol).
Looks like I’m almost all set to go then! Just two more questions:

    1) How do you edit the “Just another wordpress theme” text under the header. Which php file is this in? I can’t seem to find it.

    2) How to you make the homepage permanent instead of showing the latest posts? On another forum, someone said they figured this out by adding “Home” to the menu. Is there anything else you have to do too?? (Also, if I add ‘home’ to the menu it pushes my menu into two lines which I don’t want).
How do you add “home” to the menu? By creating a page or a post?? Sorry, I’m a bit confused about this.

    Thanks in advance!

just another wordpress site is a generic tagline that you get with a fresh install. go to settings -> general and you can change it from there or remove it completely.

as for making the home page permanent you need to go to settings -> reading and from there select “static page” under “front page displays” and then from the drop down menu choose which page you want to use as your front page (if you haven’t created one, do that first!)

as for the menu, if you’ve created a custom menu under appearance -> menus you can add in the page that you created for your homepage and bob’s your dad’s brother.

    Thanks theotherlebowski! ??

Looks like I’m almost there – just one more problem that I’ve been struggling with. How do I make a page look like the original homepage but with stories of my choosing?

I have tried copying and pasting etc. Do I need to copy each story code onto the page? And if so, where do I find the code?

    Thanks muchly in advance! ??

Hmm, I just figured that you can actually “stick” posts to the home page, which is great!!! Only problem is how do you change the order??

Plus, it’s messed up the number of boxes on the homepage. I used to have six, then it jumped to 9 for some reason. Ad now it’s 10 which looks really weird because there’s just one box stuck to the bottom of the page by itself!

?? have a look in the theme options (if it has any) you may be able to limit the number of articles displayed per page from there, if not you may have to dive into the code and tweak a parameter or two!
