How can the default page after login be changed?

    I can’t believe that there is no provision that will allow an administrator to change the first default page after login. The Dashboard is not visitor inviting or friendly.
    I know that other forum users both here and on other sites have commented on this but I have not come across a decent solution.
    Does anyone know of a plugin or basic php coding that will allow the default page to be changed?
