• I upgraded a WP blog to 3.1.1 using the automatic upgrade process from the dashboard, and now no posts are showing up in any of the categories!

On the front end, clicking on any category results in the message “Sorry, no posts matched your criteria.”

In the admin, if I go to Posts, I can see all the posts, and each one shows the category it’s (supposedly) in, but if I attempt to filter by category, click on a category, or in any other way attempt to view posts in one specific category, it says “No posts found”. I tried opening and resaving a post to see if that would make it show up in the category (it had the correct category checked in the edit view), but it didn’t help.

This is really, really crucial to fix immediately, as it could not have happened at a worse time – the blog is for a university course, and they have their final exam tomorrow! So all the students are hitting the site to find exam information, study materials, etc., and finding no posts, only the static pages. So please, if anyone has any suggestions, let me know ASAP!

I wasn’t expecting any issues from a minor upgrade (it was at 3.1 before), otherwise I would have waited until after the exam to do it… ??

  • Have you tried to reset permalinks try and switch default settings and see if they work and switch them back.

Tried that – didn’t help. I also tried editing and resaving categories to see if that did anything, but it didn’t.

Aha! Found the problem – I was using the just-one-category plugin to make parent categories show only the posts that were specifically in the parent category, and not those in subcategories (because students looking for announcements that pertain to the whole course don’t need to see the announcements for every separate tutorial within it). And apparently that plugin doesn’t work with 3.1.1 – because I deactivated it as an experiment, and voila, now everything shows up again.

I’ve reported the plugin as broken with 3.1.1, and the system prompted me to make a separate forum post in the plug-ins category – not sure if I can just change the category and tag of this one or not. But if I can’t, I’ll put a link in that post back to this one so I don’t have to duplicate it.

Oh, duh – there are apparently a ton of posts saying that that plugin is broken as of 3.1, never mind 3.1.1! ??

The weird thing is, I could have sworn this site was running 3.1 and the plugin still worked then, but possibly I somehow missed an upgrade? Usually I’m pretty prompt about installing them… Strange. Oh well.

i’m having the same problem, and am NOT using any category plugins EXCEPT for Ninja Categories & Tags

have tried deactivating that one, no change.
tried deactivating ALL plugins, no change.
reactivated one at at time, no change.
with “simple twitter” deactivated, i got a loop.php error which i thought was weird – but will deal with that LATER.

i had set a category base, no joy. Removed the category base, still no joy… reset back to “default” in permalinks settings, still no joy… don’t even get “no posts” – just get the heading “Category Archives: Category name” and nothing after that…

i’m using a child theme of Twenty Ten… just upgraded to 3.1.1
    have very few plugins running.

as this site is a new conversion, i’ve only got one post in one category – (numerous pages tho)

    any thoughts?? i’m stumped.
