• I am thinking about adding my custom taxonomies to YARPP by trying out the suggestions in this forum post: HERE. But first I have a question about The Pool section that shows up on the YARPP admin page, where it says “”The Pool” refers to the pool of posts and pages that are candidates for display as related to the current entry.”

I am assuming that if something isn’t on that list so that it can be “disallowed” then that also means it isn’t being used as a candidate for display.

Will adding custom taxonomies to the pool have any negative effects to how YARPP generates relatedness?

Will it even look at custom taxonomies as part of the relatedness calculation if I do add them so that they show up in the pool?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

  • @ilaughy, “The Pool” in the options UI is only one component… you would also have to majorly modify the YARPP relatedness query-generating section to actually make the query consider the custom taxonomy as well. I can’t vouch for that other forum post’s solution, so I can’t say if there would be any adverse effects or not.

Thanks mitcho for your reply –

Just to be clear: this means that custom taxonomies are not part of the calculation of relatedness?

Other than services.php and magic.php, which files would need to be adjusted – where is the “relatedness query-generating section” located in the plugin?

That’s right. Custom taxonomies are not included.

The query is built in magic.php.
