    Hi,
I had 3.01 running and tried upgrading (manually) to version 3.1. I don’t have many plugins, but usually don’t do anything to them when upgrading. In fact the whole install has always been default.

After the upgrade, when it says successful and tries to go back to the main page, I get an error in Firefox that says, the page isn’t redirecting properly. I have gone back and tested 3.01, 3.04, and 3.05 and they all work fine. Actually the last time, right now, I tried to upgrade to 3.1 I deactivated the spam catcher and the auto upgrade plugins, so there were no active plugins.

    The site is here: https://www.3dmotiontraining.com/blog/

Can anyone help me out with what might be different with 3.1? Thanks.

  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – re-running the upgrade manually using wp-admin/upgrade.php.

    Thanks for the reply,
I renamed the current theme using FTP by adding a 1 to it. Result, no change. I don’t know how to reset the plugins folder by FTP… I have just downloaded 3.1 before trying to upgrade 30 minutes ago.

I re-ran the upgrade.php page. It said, no upgrade needed with the continue button, which I clicked. Result, no change. Can’t pull up the index page.

Any other ideas? Is it unwise to run 3.05 for a while longer?

    Thanks.

Please see the link I gave above.

Sorry, didn’t realize that was a link. I followed the procedure and it did work, sort of. I can now get into the wp-admin, but the site itself still doesn’t appear.

Are these sequential steps? Should I re-upload all except the content folder and then re-run the upgrade?

Thanks. Not yet though. I switched to the Twenty Ten theme. re-uploaded all files except the content folder and then re-ran the upgrade.php page. It said already upgrade and I clicked the continue button. Still can’t access the site.

    Any more ideas?

    Site url?

    Here: Site

Were you running any caching plugins? Looks like the site is caught in a redirection loop.

Is your site running on a Windows server?

No, not that I know of. The only plug-ins right now are Akismet, Hello Dolly (which I guess isn’t a plugin?) and WordPress automatic upgrade. All are de-activated.

Yes, Firefox gives me a redirect error, and never loads the page. Seen this before? Is running 3.05 unwise?

    Is running 3.05 unwise?

Yes. Unless you are running the latest version of WordPress, you have a higher than normal risk of being hacked.

Ok, where should I go from here to fix this problem?

No, I believe it’s a Linux server, shared hosting service.
